Do French Students Really Bid Sincerely?∗

چکیده
Do French Students really bid sincerely in real and hypothetical incentive compatible auctions? Recent evidence suggests they do, which goes counter to most observed bidding behavior in the United States, and supports the idea that cultural di erences may explain bidding behavior more than economic circumstances. Herein we run a robustness check by exploring bidding behavior in classic Vickrey auction for real and hypothetical values in the two largest cities (Paris and Lyon). Two striking results emerge (1) French students bid sincerely; and (2) no hypothetical bias exists.

An Efficient and Incentive Compatible Ascending Auction for Multiple Complements1
This paper proposes an ascending-bid auction for efficiently allocating multiple complementary indivisible commodities. The seller has a reserve price for every bundle of goods and determines the quantity for sale based upon bidders’ reported demands. متن کاملA random nth-price auction
Second-price auctions are designed to induce people to reveal their private preferences for a good. Laboratory evidence suggests that while these auctions do a reasonable job on aggregate, they fall short at the individual level, especially for bidders who are off-margin of the market-clearing price. Herein we introduce and explore whether a random nth-price auction can engage all bidders to bi...
متن کاملDo Auction Bidders “Really” Want to Win the Item, or Do They Simply Want to Win?
This article describes three experiments designed to investigate the effects of competition and attachment on auction bidder behavior. For each study, in order to isolate bidders' desire to win the item from bidders’ desire to simply win the auction, we constructed survey experiments with participants divided into two groups. Both groups bid on a certificate that could be exchanged for an attra...

We nd people bid more sincerely in the auction with earned wealth given monetary incentives; earned wealth did not induce sincere bidding in hy...
